Dance in My Day is a multimedia dance performance expressing various styles of dance through the 20th century as told by a select group of Warwick, NY senior community members. The choreographic exploration of dance over the last 75 years will be presented by the Warwick Center for the Performing Arts founder and director, Melissa Padham-Maass and the Warwick Dance Collective on Saturday, March 23 at 3pm in the Black Box Theatre at the Warwick Center for the Performing Arts, 63 Wheeler Ave., Warwick, NY 10990.
Dance styles included in the performance are based on personal accounts and memories of dance as told by senior residents — some living in Warwick Grove, some members of the Warwick Senior Center and Padham-Maass’ own grandparents. A collection of video footage will be the backdrop of the performance showing clips of one-on-one interviews with each senior participant who shared their stories. From a three year run on American Bandstand, 1961-1963, to dancing with Tony Bennett, to not having been introduced to dancing until a high school prom, the Dance in My Day production will feature styles including the Fox Trot, The Twist, Ballet and Modern Dance.
