United Martial Arts Centers has raised $2,000 for Back Pack Snack Attack, the program that provides as many as 300 children throughout Warwick with healthy food to each over the weekends. Pictured from left to right at the check presentation are: Shirley Pruitt, Back Pack Snack Attack; Master Tiana Ocker; UMAC Grand Master Edmund Ciarfella; and Master Danielle Ciarfella. “When my wife and I opened the school,” said Ciarfella said, “we decided that we wanted to make a positive difference in our community, not only by teaching the physical side of martial arts but also the philosophical side, courtesy, integrity, self control, perseverance and indomitable spirit. We also felt strongly about developing a culture of helping those in need.” The next fund raiser will be a Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the center’s new location at 43 West St. A $10 donation will be given to the Warwick Food Pantry.
