Although the day began with cloudy skies and a light rain, the weather, although a little on the warm side, was near perfect as guests enjoyed the annual Taste of Warwick this past Tuesday evening, Sept. 10. Approximately 280 tickets were sold this year and with clear skies guests had a choice of outdoor seating on a 4000 square-foot patio or mingling with friends in the huge tent while sampling gourmet dishes and wine. Everyone also enjoyed the music of the Marc Von Em Trio. Each year the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce holds A Taste of Warwick as a showcase fore some of the region’s best restaurant chefs, caterers, markets, florists and wine merchants. The event takes place on the grounds of the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery. And, as the Taste of Warwick highlights local cuisine, it also contributes to a sense of community.
A Taste of Warwick first began in 1994, the same year that its host, the Warwick Valley Winery, opened. Initially it was designed by Warwick merchants to be a fund raiser for the October celebration of Applefest. And it’s been held at the same location every year with the exception of Sept. 11, 2001, when the event, which was scheduled for that eventful day, was canceled because of the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon and World Trade Center. “We appreciate all those who participate and who take time away from their own businesses each year to make our annual Taste of Warwick a success,” said Michael Johndrow, executive director of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce. “We urge everyone in our community to support them.”
